I've been clean and sober for 9+ years and through that journey I've done some soul searching. I struggled growing up in a religious household. Something was missing. Even when I embraced it it wasn't enough. Like a lot of suburban kids, I eventually rebelled and turned to drugs. I thought they were the answer, but they made things worse, and took hold of me. That life lead me down a dark road for a long time. It didn't occur to me until I got sober that I was searching and trying to fill a void. For over 3 years I lived and worked sobriety with the consistency and coldness of a soldier. It saved my life (and continues to do so one day at a time)...but still. Something was missing. When I met my now fiancee the emptiness I felt all my life started to fill with warmth and color. What can I say? Man cannot live on self-care alone. Hence: This is All I Ever Needed

Some lyrics to highlight: "Medicated and blind / to keep me out of my mind" is me self medicating and "Dedicated and blind to keep me out of my mind" is a nod to the saying "Love is blind." And in my case a leap of faith too! "Out of my mind" in both can mean crazy or it can mean like a lot of what recovery teaches i.e. to not over think and get out of your head
